Bandung Conference

The first large-scale Asian–African Conference took place on 18–24 April 1955 in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. China played an important role in the conference and strengthened its relations with other Asian nations. Having survived an assassination attempt on the way to the conference, Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai used the forum to promote peaceful coexistence and cast China as a champion of the newly independent world.

Second Taiwan Strait Crisis

The Second Taiwan Strait Crisis was a conflict between the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the Republic of China (ROC). The PRC shelled the islands of Kinmen (Quemoy) and the Matsu Islands in an attempt to take them from the ROC and to probe the extent of American commitment to defend the Republic of China.
