Aftermath of the Second Revolution (Republic of China)
The KMT's 'Second Revolution' ended in failure as Yuan's troops achieved complete victory over revolutionary uprisings. In January 1914, China's Parliament was formally dissolved. The new legal status quo gave Yuan, as president, near-absolute power.

After Yuan Shikai was installed as the second Provisional Great President of the Republic of China established by Sun Yat-sen, he took various steps to consolidate his power and remove opposition leaders from office.
