WASHINGTON (NC)—Hurdling a veto by President Truman, Congress voted into law the McCarran-Walter omnibus immigration bill. The Senate overrode the veto by a vote of 81 to 26, more than the required two-thirds majority. The night before, the House of Representatives speedily voted against the veto, 287 to 113, seventeen more votes than required.
