Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey sign mutual defence agreement
France 24 →Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey signed a mutual defence pact on Friday that would treat any act of aggression on one of the three nations as an attack on all of them, the allies said in a joint statement. However, it did not specify if the agreement would bind them to any particular military action in each other's defence.

Bandung Conference
The first large-scale Asian–African Conference took place on 18–24 April 1955 in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. The twenty-nine countries that participated represented a total population of 1.5 billion people. Nehru showed increasing interest during and after late 1954 due to his concern about American foreign policy as it applied to Asia — a direct reaction to the string of U.S.-led collective defense pacts being formed across the region.

The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, enacted August 10, 1964, was a joint resolution that the United States Congress passed in response to the Gulf of Tonkin incident. It gave U.S. president Lyndon B. Johnson authorization, without a formal declaration of war by Congress, to use conventional military force in Southeast Asia. Specifically, the resolution authorized the president to do whatever necessary in order to assist 'any member or protocol state of the Southeast Asia Collective Defense Treaty' — making SEATO the legal basis for America's full-scale entry into the Vietnam War.
