Chinese Peace Set Thursday
Chungking, Jan. 7–AP– Seeking peace by Thursday in warring China, Gen. George C. Marshall will meet top factional spokesmen today and probably make important decisions, said Gen. Chou En-Lai, chief of the Chinese Communist delegation. Chou predicted that the truce sought by Marshall, Chou and Gen. Chang Chun, national government representative, would be made effective before Thursday when China's interparty, non-partisan conference opens its quest for permanent peace and unity. Agreement of both factions on procedures for the ending of hostilities was announced Saturday, but fixing a date for the cease-fire orders awaited a conference of Marshall, Chou and Chang. Marshall signified his willingness to serve on the committee of three shortly after the appointments of Chou and Chang were announced. Communist and government leaders repeatedly were studying the first draft of cease-fire orders today. As soon as the two parties agree on wording, the orders will be submitted for General Marshall's approval, reported Dr. Lo Lung Chi, a spokesman for China's Democratic League.
