Pia was near Grand Mound and Centralia early Thursday and moving northward rapidly. American soldiers retreated. The retreat was being carried out in orderly fashion, however, the communique reported. An armored force, estimated at a battalion, was sighted as it drove down U.S. Highway 80 on Thursday, starting at Port Angeles.
